That even though someone is laughing and having fun, doesn't mean that they're not depressed. It's a misconception made by a lot of people. They think, " How can you simply be depressed if you're having a good time? You can't be that depressed, that means you're lying to me."
I've had this particular thing happen to me before by a lot of my "friends". It gets annoying because even thought I'm not severely depressed, I still am and being told that I'm a liar and that I'm not depressed just because I had a good time is like telling celery that it's not celery because it doesn't have the leafy part on top.
Yes.. I went off on a spiel.. but I do believe that's what it means..
Humor and laughter can be a defense mechanism, or a way to process and move on from a painful experience. Meanwhile, the pain is still there.
We laugh when we are happy, but we also laugh in spite of our pain.
