What do you do to save money on heating your house during the winter?

I have a lot of hot flashes. :-p Seriously, since the wind blows so much here in the winter it is good to make sure the doors are weather-stripped. We have double windows too. We keep the spare room vent turned off and the door closed, and one of the kitchen vents closed because it is the warmest room in the house. I actually prefer the cold weather, so except for my fingers and toes I am happy!

I keep the temperature set a little lower than most people, I keep a blanket on the couch, extra blankets on the beds, wear something warm indoors like a sweatshirt if needed, I close the heat vents & doors in rooms we don't go in much (like spare bedrooms and the bathrooms too) I cook dinner in the oven instead of stove top or microwave. I've also got a nice collection of fuzzy socks to wear on my feet!

I wear a lot of sweatshirts... :/ Then again, the winter here is like early autumn for people elsewhere in the US. :P

My house has those crappy electric base-board heaters. I found 2 space heaters that look like little fire places for 49 bucks each. One heats our living room and the other our bedroom. We use the base-board ones to keep the house at 45 degrees and use the other ones for heat when we are home. The heating bill went from 125 bucks in the dead of winter to 85-95 bucks.

Aside from all of these wonderful suggestions- an electric/heating blanket is the best thing since sliced bread.

I got central heating and insulation fitted. If all else fails, I wear more layers of clothing. Including when I'm in bed.

Just layer up. I live alone since me and my husband split and there is no way I'll have the heating on this year at all! I refuse to heat a whole house for one person! I'll just wrap up warm and make do. Perhaps I may heat the house on special occasions as a treat lol, like Christmas or my birthday!

Wear a coat made entirely of live beavers at all times - keeps me warm and provides entertainment.

Look up window liners online, or use heavy blankets/curtains to cover your windows. In older homes, drafty windows have a huge impact on heating costs.

My aunt keeps the heat off which is funning cause she has money and a very big house on top of a hill. The people in here community are very well off. But i guess that's why she has money. I remember visiting my cousins on the weekends during winter and sleeping over, 24/7 we were under blankets lol.
