What do you do when life feels dull?

Often I just feel like life's kind of pointless: like every day is the same. Occasionally this type of thinking has led to thoughts of suicide, and I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for how to get out of these type of moods.

On those blah days.... get out and go do something..... go take a walk, call up a friend you haven't spoken to in a while and see if they want to meet for coffee or just chat on the phone. Write an email to a friend and say Hi.
Go to a museum or the beach. Go volunteer somewhere, like a retirement home or a hospital, go to an animal shelter and walk the dogs.
Make a list of all the things you are grateful for... no matter how small it is: traffic was light on the way to work, you found a good deal on something you wanted to buy, you have a home to live in, you woke up today, you have your health, you have a tv/computer, someone smiled at you.... list anything that makes you happy.
Go do a random act of kindness for someone like pay for someone's train ticket, buy some food for a homeless person on the street, take your neighbors trash cans in for them, when you cut your lawn cut theirs too, if you drive where there are toll roads, pay for the car behind you!

Get out and enjoy life, be grateful for all that you have. Go give someone a smile and say hello! Go adopt a pet from the animal shelter, save a dog or cats life!
Tell yourself life is great, even if the day is dull, you were given a gift of another day to hug someone, to help someone, to tell someone your sorry .... to say I love you!
go on now!! get busy, be grateful and smile! :)

I totally understand. I constantly wonder why am I here? What purpose am I serving? I buy all kinds of books to understand why I feel the way I do. And all of them come back to the same thing..We're here to serve some purpose to someone. We're here to talk to that person whose never been talked too..We're here to smile at that person whose been having a worst day than us..we're here to hold that door for that lady that can't hold it for herself...I know that at first it doesn't seem like alot, but once you see the power that you have, you'll then realize that life is about us all together..
I realized that suicide wouldn't help..If I did that, then those people worst than me wouldn't see my smile, or listen to my voice or even allow me to hold the door for them...I went to the doctor and I got help...I'm now taking medication to help me remember that I am worth meeting. I think you should too. Live is as dull as we allow it to be. There's always people like us out there somewhere waiting to meet us..
What do you like to do? Let's start there..

Almost everyone goes through these phases at some point. You're right: life can be so repetitive and it can seem pointless. Believe me, I know. Just do whatever makes you happy. Take a walk, listen to music, read a good book, anything to distract your mind. If you don't feel like this all the time, the feeling eventually passes. And if the feeling continues, you might want to consider seeing a psychologist. Trust me, they actually help a lot, and it doesn't mean you're crazy. They just offer really interesting ways to change your thinking. But just know that you're not the only one.

Well, it just so happens that today I had emotions similar to the ones your explaining. As soon as I awoke this morning I felt the negativity creep over my head like a dark and hovering cloud. And at that very moment of gaining a waking consciousness I said to myself, "Here we go again." By now I've come to see life as a series of ups and downs, and in-betweens. Life cycles...that pretty much explains it all for me. In a matter of minutes, hours, days, weeks, and so on the positive vibes you're sensing can shift poles and turn negative. As a believer in astrology and the mysterious powers of the universe, my most educated guess would be that way we recieve these vibes depends on our sun signs(zodiac signs) and the aligning and position of cosmic enery sources(stars, moons, planets...even you!) But, this is just me using my special interests in an effort to come up with an answer. In all honesty, I don't believe the solution is important, and very well may not exist. How you choose to react and deal with the emotions and confusion is what actually counts. You can let the negative vibes take hold as you continue down a negative path, or you can fight your way, baby step by baby step, againsts the dark forces, and towards the light and love of the positive path. Like those others who've shared their opinions before me, I too think it is a good idea to do and act of kindness, small or great. Though good vibes start within, making conscious physical efforts toward positivity will make a bigger impact, more perminent impression on you and your universe. :D... peace and love be with you.

Do something completely unpredictable or at least something you've never done before.

If you don't like, don't do it again, but at least it will put a new spin on things.
