Why ask someone anything if they like to avoid giving you the flat out truth.<br />
call them on it, then let them know you will avoid asking them anything because of their behavior.<br />
People like to be liked, they want to be listened to, and they rather give advice than take it.<br />
A real friend is all of the above plus likes to get advice.

You really can't change people. I found myself in a relationship in my past with someone like that, they would also lie, manipulate, argue just to argue so they could feel like they "won" instead of being genuine & trying to truly communicate. I got the hell away from him, broke off our engagement & found a much better fit with my husband.
