Are you talking about a clinical depression when full metabolic and neurotransmitter changes have accumulated?
Or do you mean feeling a bit down over something, a feeling or an inexplicable mood?

I'm taking a guess that you mean the second.
As soon as I notice that I'm feeling low energy and having negative thoughts, I track back in memory to when they started.
I usually discover it's because some communication with someone has backfired due to a misunderstanding.
I'll think about it for a while, figuring out the best way to discuss it with the other person, developing an idea of what kind of outcome I hope for, and what the possibilities and variables might be.
Then I make a date to talk about it with them, and turn up with an open mind, not specially clinging to my hopes, but prepared to accept whatever outcome arises.
Sometimes my funks are just a phase while I'm sorting through a problem, such as how to fix a confusing scene I've written so it makes sense.
Sometimes I just feel sad about something, like the death of an animal, an old friend or my mother... then I just let it be because it's OK.
Always I'm aware that feelings arise and pass away.
They are weather; natural and inevitable.
They can't really hurt us unless our responses in action are foolish.

I get out a piece of paper and write down what i'm feeling, when i started feeling this way, what i can do to change how i'm feeling, and then why i hate feeling this way. Then i say out loud something positive with no negative words such as: I have the ability to overcome this.

Although I watch my diet, I eat something sugary like a small cake filled with chocolate or something like this, take fish oil, put on some music and in 30 minutes I'm okay dancing and being hyper :)

Listen to loud music, sleep it off, watch a good movie, hug my pet, call a friend or talk to a close relative, eat something i really like, or go shopping. If nothing works then maybe smoke weed, pop a pill or have a beer or glass of wine or shot? Good luck and please take care of yourself!
