I think it's a combination - <br />
* Food is eaten as comfort. The more unhealthy, the more likely it's a comfort food<br />
* Excessive portions (let me tell you, american restaurant portions are just way over the top generous compared to other countries)<br />
* Succumbing to junk food marketing and thinking it's normal to eat that stuff once a week or more. <br />
* The government subsidisies of corn production that leads to cheap access to unhealthy sugars for the junk food industry.
Food is cheap and portions are too high in empty calories. Then you couple that with a mostly sedentary car culture and that insures fat to all who don't have unusual metabolisms or a restricted diet.
Junk food; easy access to junk food.
I think we learned to use food as a drug.
Technology, bad food marketing with expensive commercials for junk food, loss of family unity at the dinner table.
A Lack of excercise by entertainment, work, and play all being indoors. Couple that with too much sugar, fat, and processed food you end up with heavy people becoming heavier. Americans want instant gratification and we want it while sitting. Let's face it. When's the last time instead of going out drinking you went for a walk with your friends? Never. Ever played basketball on a double date instead of dinner and a movie? nope.<br />
The issue is people are eating far too much and not burning off enough calories. The reason is that excercise and getting enough physical activity is important in any diet. People lead sedentary lives nowadays and not nearly as many have a physically demanding job. It's a sign that Americans as a whole are consuming way too much, we've become fat bloated and decadent. Exactly the opposite of what we want to portray.
Because it's more fun to eat and relax than diet and exercise.
There are many reasons why we are obese or FAT here in America .... Americans are constantly stuffing their mouths with fast food and junk foods 'n desserts ..... <br />
In America we don't care about portions , so what is a normal portion for most; many of us will have two or three times that amount ....<br />
With the advent of Video Games ; so many of us sit around on our lazy a**es playing video games all day and all night , depriving ourselves of much needed EXERCISE.<br />
Don't get me wrong ; there are medical reasons and generic reasons why SOME people are overweight ; BUT for the most of us ; it is our lack of diet and exercise ... Plain and Simple.
in 1970 the use of corn syrup became the replacement of regular sugar ,the corn blends easy and is 3 times more sweet than granulated sugar and the weight issue took off from there ,my red neck counry boy husband say's one can fatten a hog no exersise in a pen,and corn will fatten it and once fatone can feed the hog a hand full of corn and the hog will stay fat.this is some thing for you to think about.for every action there is a reaction.
