What do you make of this and why?

For 15 years, scientists have benefited from data gleaned by U.S. classified satellites of exploding space rocks natural fireball events in Earth's atmosphere. But now that data is classified.

The satellites' main objectives include detecting nuclear bomb tests, and their characterizations of asteroids and lesser meteoroids crashing through the atmosphere has been a byproduct data bonanza for scientists.

Again this data has now been classified as SECRET by the military. What happened to cause this? What make the government suddenly classify and restrict access to the data that was freely available to the public?

I don't know what you are talking about, the government "never" covers anything up.

I think that if a North Korea or other unsavory government were to have full unrestricted access to that information that it wouldn't be a giant leap before they could determine the capabilities of our systems and undermine them.

Maybe the military is doing some type of new weapons testing the satellites would inadvertently pick up. I'm thinking it could be nuclear. Typical military secrecy it sounds like to me.
