What do you put on an infected burn ?

userina - on my hip bone, it's about 1 cm in diameter, it's been infected for about 4 days i'd guess. I think it's infected because it's red around the edges and the skin in the middle is pretty icky (i have no other words to describe it)

wiseowl - i've tried antibiotic cream before, and i've noticed that the scar left behind is worse :(

If it were me, I'd probably try pouring vodka on it, in the blind hope that the high alcohol content would somehow help sterylise the wound. But I don't think it works that way :(

mysterygirlsky	Posted Oct 27th, 2009 at 9:54AM If u get burned hte best stuff to put on it aloe vera gel, if the burn is really red and blistered or got yellow pus coming out of it or around it than seek medical care right away, if that's the case a doctor can only prescribed something to take the infection out and that's the safest way to handle an infected burn because over the counter stuff can cause it to only get more infected. roarke09	Posted Oct 26th, 2009 at 6:07PM For an infection, even hospitals are using a "medical grade honey" whatever that is, Try putting honey on it, raw honey and maybe some garlic. They are great antibiotics and anti inflammatory. You should also probably drain any discharge before hand. after the infection goes away, try rubbing vit. E on the wound, or oil of lavender. jeanma	Posted Oct 26th, 2009 at 9:14PM yes, 'medical grade honey' is best. use manuka honey from new zealand. the higher the UMF, the more effective.. ranging from UMF 5+, UMF 10+, 15+, 20+, the highest being UMF 25+. its fast healing - draws fluid out of the germs thus killing them. userina	Posted Oct 26th, 2009 at 9:27PM Fortunately is small.Make sure it is exposed to air and will have a chance to dry out. Put peroxide on it a couple of times a day. Burns do not heal fast, at list not as fast as a cuts. Is better not have anything on it that will block the air such as ointment. Light rinsing with peroxide or" Providone iodine" should do it.At this stage is best not to use creams. Redness around the burn is normal but if it gets bigger, hurts or fells hot could be a sign of infections and in that case you would want to see a doctor.Good luck. Rated: +1Vote for this!
