    Children? Don't get me started.

As someone who is, herself, childfree by choice.. I genuinely cannot think of a better way to live. I love my life and my freedom, and would not trade them for anything in the world. Certainly not for a screaming little person of severely limited intelligence who I'd have to wait on hand and foot for years.

Maybe it's just that I've only been exposed to families with brats but in my 30 years on this planet, I have yet to come across a family with young kids who wasn't stressed out on a daily basis. Their lives are completely dictated by the whims and needs of these miniature tyrants they have created. Why? Why the Dickens??

Maybe I'm missing a chromosome or something, but children make me cringe! They are loud, expensive, messy, smelly, selfish, mean-spirited little monsters. I cannot for the life of me wrap my head around why otherwise intelligent people actually choose to have them (---perhaps you many parents out there can enlighten me?). But as it stands now, I am endlessly grateful not to be ruled by my animal instincts, biological clock, call it what you will.

(I did warn you not to get me started)
    :)

I feel basically the same and I'm happy and proud to be childfree by choice :-)

You should choose to do what makes you happy. There should be no reason to have a child you don't even want to accept the responsibility for.

It's perfectly valid in a world that has a rapidly growing population.
Why should you feel compelled to have a child?

I'm so happy to be childfree by choice and have identified as such since about 2000 (but never wanted kids even before that).

I've gotta say, the responses in this thread are shocking to me and in a good way. IRL I encounter tons of people who think being CFBC is a really, really weird and/or terrible thing.

Ditto.. to everything you typed :) The strangest question I got once from a friend (father of two kids, natch) was "But you were given the gift of life; don't you think it is your responsibility to give life?" o.O

That is VERY strange, I agree! The one that always floors me is when people said to me (when I was married), "But why did you get married, if you don't want to have children?" Bizarre. I'll probably marry again in the future and hear that same Q. My boyfriend already had a vasectomy, we are both very serious about never having children!

I can barely take care of myself. A kid, forget about it.

It's a legit choice.....Also, it beats having a bunch of kids that one didn't choose to have.

Somebody's lifestyle choice is their business-nothing wrong with that

It makes sense if you think you'd be a bad parent.

Good for you if that's what you choose, not everyone likes kids, and we don't need them that badly. But I sure love mine.
