I've never had one, but they've turned out badly for the people I know who have tried them.

If you get two people who love each other and are willing to deal with the difficulties of loneliness instead of the ease and deceit of cheating, then I think it could work out well, but sadly I think that there are very few people out there who would do that.

Difficult but when they work they are totally worth it.

I've tried long distance relationships. I always felt lonely and wondered what that person was doing. I couldn't focus on my own life, and therefore it didn't work.

Don't give up and don't eff up. if people want to make it work it will. relationships require effort from both parts.

Your Spanish quote gives us a lot to think about. However, I'll stay stupid.

I think they are magnificent. I've been hurt many times, but the glorious moments are worth every second.

Depends on the person(s) involved and how disciplined, how well you can cope with the distance. Physical touch, I've discovered, is 100% better than 0%. You get subliminal messages through body language and touch. Dealing with a long distance, over the phone or via your internet, you're lacking alot and this can create issues of insecurity, distrust, fear of cheating on both sides and or actual cheating.

Most long distance relationships end in a bad way and that's been my full on experience. Not saying it can't be done, but from what I've seen, people marry through the internet and end in divorce 6 to 9 years later.

Good luck.

I think your spanish saying is a good one. Its not impossible to love from afar. It does not mean that it is not love. But perhaps its just not so smart? In love... but alone.

Based on what I have read here and my own experience too, long distance relationships that work are more the exception rather than the rule. There are just too many factors to deal with. However, if you already are involved in one, there is no harm in trying to make it work. Who knows, your case may also be an exception. :)

It can work if you have love, trust, and aloooooot of patience. Also, communication is KEY. I married military so, for me, it's a lifestyle.

i'm in a long distance relationship right now and have been for some time. i don't think it would work with anyone else besides my guy. he grew up with his parents being happily married but his father working in a different country. he saw how they made it work and learned i think, a different level of trust because of it. he is amazingly attentive even though he is so far away. we do see each other about every two months and we talk several times a day. and for me i just trust him - it's something about him - cause overall i don't trust very easily.

Not for me. Relationships are hard enough without physical distance.

If you believe in sharing your partner or have an open relationship then it can work. But otherwise NO!

It's very difficult keeping a long distance relationship going especially if effort is only one sided and there are trust issues. Believe me there will always be trust issues, you don't know what the other is doing and if they are lying to you even if you try to make yourself believe they are trustworthy. People seem to have this human nature of trying to do something without getting caught if they think they won't get caught.
