What do you think about the book The Bridges of Madison County?

Hands down, one of my favorite books. I cried at the end of the book and the movie. Do you know why she didn't leave with him? I do, but I want to hear what you have to say about it.

A friend of mine once asked me to read The Bridges of Madison County, and I opted for an audio-book I got from the library. Frankly, I thought the book was pretty badly overwrought, the prose just way too purple.

The movie, on the other hand, with Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood, had a wonderful balance. I thought it cut the schmaltz and kept the emotion ... and for what is ostensibly a "chick flick," it worked for me.

I think it was so much better than the movie was. I've known what it is like to be the Clint Eastwood character. To love someone so very much, like you have loved no other, and even though they have felt the same way, they still didn't pick you. I guess sometimes art really does imitate real life.
