Okay, serious answer- You have to stay strong for them, and show them how proud you are. There are a lot of women here on EP in a similar position, so I'm sure you can find people to talk to about how you feel. I really wish your husband and brother the best of luck.

Ditto Drix answer. You gotta stay strong. I see a lot of Marines at the tattoo shop I work at before they go. you can see they're nervous/scared since most are young men. If the conversation turns to it, I try to make sure that what they're doing is appreciated.

Not like it was when some of my "bros" left or came back from Nam.

You love them.....Trust them.....be proud of them.....

Tell them everything that you have ever wanted to tell them...

And make sure to write them....

Write them a mushy letter....and give it to them when they are walking out the door.....Tell them everything that you will be sorry for if anything happens to them and is left unsaid.....

And them just pray for them...and their brothers and sisters in arms...

Lock them in the basement shortly before they're about to leave and keep them there until the war is over.

Oh gosh, so scary, but realize that I have known many, MANY people who have served in this war -- multiple tours, in fact. I have not known a single person who died there. That doesn't mean you are exempt, it only means that you have every reason to be positive and supportive. Statistics would suggest that your loved ones are at greater risk driving a car in the US than serving in Afghanistan or Iraq. So get their APO's in advance, organize a care package party within your community, and send lots of simple, silly gifts to your soldiers. Most of all, relax, and know they are doing their duty. (((hugs)))

that really sucks. i'm sorry to hear this. i wouldn't date or marry anyone who was in the military for this reason and i wouldn't encourage any relative of mine to go into the service. i hope they return home safely.

Honestly all i can do is pray. my husband is heading to afghanistan now. i am so proud of him and i know that he is perfectly able to do his job well. all the other things are not in our control. so i trust that God is there to provide whatever he needs in those situations.

I'd introduce them to General Smedley Butler's book, "War is a Racket".
