What does it mean to steal an experience?

I *think* it's slang for when you see someone in your circle with an experience you don't have and then you select "me too" for that experience. This results in joking (or perhaps sometimes sincere) cries of "You're stealing my experience!" that are reminiscent of the way a child would say "You're copying me!" if they saw someone wearing the same coloured clothing as them. That's what it seems like to me, anyway. Maybe I'm totally wrong?
