What does negative scary dreams mean?

It could mean there is something out there in your actual life appearing negative and scary to you, so your subconcious mind tries to compute it to deal better with it. It could also be a warning that if you proceed the way you do, negative and scary things could happen. It could even be that you just imagined something negative and scary realistic enough for your mind to get concerned about it. For half of your brain there is no difference between imagination and reality.

A warning sign, your fears, unresloved issues, sometimes this is just a reaction to something you may have watched/read about.

You have an underlying concern, that you cannot express. It may be to do with health, it may be to do with something subconsciously you have been trying to evade.

most dreams refer to something within yourself -

there is within each of us a place jungians call 'shadow' where you stuff everything you don't like into a shadow land - and never look at it again. . .

negative scary dreams are often trying to get you to look.
