What exactly is faith in God, how do you increase it and why is it necessary?

I don't think it is necessary.Why do you want to believe in something for which there is otherwise no real proof?

Faith is a personal belief in something that has no material evidence. For example, if I had faith in my child that he would succeed at his/her exams, I am believing in something I think will happen, but can not prove it will happen.

In the case of God or the bible, we speak in terms of a Living Word, which is action more commonly termed in Christian circles as the Holy Spirit.

Prayer is meditation on the Word of God. Prayer like any form of meditation is about the benefits to oneself, and through that, others. So if you were to pray for a loved one who was sick, you wouldn't be asking God to help, but rather asking how Gods Word could help you help that person so they may be more comfortable. Prayer alone is no better than hope.

It is not necessary. It is a personal choice and loads of people, myself included, get along just fine without it.

"Faith, in anything" is only a (personal assumption).
In order to increase it- you must 1st believe it is (possible) to obtain in the 1st place. Is it necessary? Let me answer with 2 questions; Does God believe that you exist? Do you believe that your family exist? Bottom-line' God don't need our faith for any reason. + God can save (with or without) any given blood sacrifice...only because "God" is (God) & no one else is. God is the "primordial beginning" of all Life & Death"

It is not necessary at all. It is a matter of personal choice. Without faith in God, I guarantee life will go on.

Faith in god is belief in something that someone tells you. It is not proven. Someone just tells you and you decide to live your life based off of that. You have to be really stupid to do that.

The answer to these 3 questions depends on which "God" you're referring to: most likely, you'd get different answers from a Jew, a Muslim, a Christian and a Native American---in fact, you'd probably get differing answers even in the first 3 categories, depending on whether you were asking a moderate, a liberal or a conservative Jew/Muslim/Christian.

Are you asking purely theoretically, or bec. you are actually seeking to believe in God?
