Jealousy is when you see someone that has what you want and you want to bash their head in with a sledge hammer.

Jealously is wishing for yourself what someone else already has; jealously is wanting something that you perceive someone else has. Jealously is not being content with who you are and what your life is filled with already.

It's a very unhealthy feeling/emotion that makes you unhappy. That's my experience anyway.

so much jealousy is misdirected, not reality but one partners irrational insecurity or feelings of inadequacy over the relationship which will destroy said relationship if there is no real reason for the jealousy.
A wasted emotion. In stead of being jealous which accomplishes nothing one should try to figure out if there is a good reason for it.
If there is then try to address the issue.

Jealousy is feelings of fear, anxiety, anger, humiliation or insecurity you have when a third party enters a relationship you have with someone you care about. Obviously jealousy is not pleasant.

Nothing actually has to be going on with that third person - doesn't have to be an affair or anything like that. All it has to be are interactions between your loved one and the third person. It doesn't have to be opposite gender.. it could be because of the relationship your spouse has with a same-gender friend.

Note, jealousy has to do with people. If you're having feelings about "stuff".... it is envy. You aren't jealous of a friend who gets a new car or goes on a vacation - you are envious.

very good answer. I like your insight that jealousy is for people, envy is for stuff. The feeling is totlally different.
