There may be a "special" exemption for competition shooters or some other situation but do your research. Go online first and google everything you can and consider the validity of the source. "Bob's gun talk forum" may or may not have correct info. Then call state agencies by phone. State Buearu of investigation, Highway Patrol and fish and wildlife agencies are the first ones to come to my mind. And you must consider all this for each state you're driving through. And also TSA rules if you're flying.

Go to Armed American Radio's web site and search their state by state carry and concealed carry index.

Nothing if you are passing thru, however if NY does not allow open carry you shouldn't open carry, just leave your weapon properly secured in your trunk

You'd be committing a criminal act because Cuomo and Bloomberg are a pair of cúnts. The "SAFE" Act, which would be making people less safe, ironically, hasn't been put into effect yet and I'm hoping it never sees the light of day...I believe the Bullshít Act prohibits the transportation of firearms across the New York border, but I am not 100% certain. If it is a handgun, the Liberals here would burst a thousand blood vessels and jérk off to your arrest record if you're caught with it...so either don't bring the handgun or you can file for a permit..depending on the county it can range up to $200 and have a 7 month wait for residents..also bullshít.
You'd also have to check to make sure it doesn't meet any of the existing "er mah gerrd this gun looks scary!!" criteria put into place by the aforementioned cúnts.
