We would live in a world where the wicked gets ahead while the righteous are put down. Famine, evil, torture, wars would be our routine and hate and bigotry would be epidemic.

Oh, wait a minute...

Then living a righteous life would be its own reward. Either way, you win.

Then I get to say "I told you so!" and humankind can stop using religion as a substitute for morality.

well, first of all, we wouldn't be alive, but ignoring that.....
we would have no purpose, or goal or ambition in life. It would be pointless

There are a lot of people who believe God does not exist. A lot of people believed that the earth was standing still and it did not move around the sun and for advancing heliocentric theory Galileo was put under house arrest for the last few years of his life. We cannot blame them because they did not know better so they tried to defend what they believed and advance their belief and were angry with people who thought otherwise.

I choose to look at things from a different viewpoint.

No one has ever claimed that they are the sacrifice for the whole world and by receiving them one receives forgiveness for all sins(past, present and future), the gift righteousness and can enjoy peace, joy, prosperity and every other blessing, need not be afraid of death, go to heaven when they die, enjoy the favour of God.
Also no one has ever claimed that God so loved the world that he sent them to be a sacrifice for all - and whoever believes him will be saved from eternal death and will be accepted by God. - Only one person has claimed all this, that is Jesus.

So, I choose to believe, because

1. Receiving Jesus is very simple - no preconditions at all.
2. If I am wrong, I don't lose out on anything.
3. If I am right, Then I'll be saved from hell and end up in heaven. (fire insurance)

So, I just advice you better receive what he offers - wont harm you anyway! Just pray this, just in case...

Daddy God, I come to you because of Jesus. Thank you for sending Jesus to die for me because you loved me. Jesus thank you that you came to die just for my sins. Thank you that all my sins are forgiven because of your blood and I am made righteous because you were made sin and by your stripes, I was healed. I am your child.

There is NO God - at least no God as it is described in most religions. There is somebody who has created this all still this is no god as described in religions but just somebody else who has created this all for entirely different purposes. Still behaving good is good for your own good.
Treat the others as you want to be treated. This is so obvious.

A better thought might be, What if there was no organized religion? The very thing that tells us what God is what God is not, and defines our relationship with God

First of all if there were no God. There would be no existance for anyone and anything. As for morality? Where do you think morality came from?

No purpose to life, no real reasoning for morality. I do not understand those who say there is no God and want to contribute to what, your died dude. It does not matter any of it. You can do anything you want and if you get killed in the process so what, it did not matter anyway. If there are to many people simply get rid of the people it will not really make a differance if they are gone besides giving more to the rest of us. Marriage is a joke sleep with whom you want when you want, whether they like it or not. If you want something take it, there is no one to really judge you. This supposive rule of society who are they to dictate what you can and can not do. It will not mean anything to you when your dead and rotting in the ground. You can not remember your contributions and who really cares if others do, your dead and can not know what is going on or enjoy any of it. If you did not enjoy life to the fullest while you were alive to sad to bad, you just get the one go around and your worm food. So if there is no God there is no reason for morality or acheivement or social order (except to give yourself more power and what you want before you kick off this life). This would indeed be a much simpler place to live the only rules are what you make.

God is a manifestation of the human mind (you dont see other species worshipping a deity do you?) so before the evolution of humans there was no God - yet the universe managed o.k. just the same.

"There are a lot of people who believe God does not exist. A lot of people believed that the earth was standing still and it did not move around the sun "

how about, there a a lot of people who believe god does exist. A lot of people believed that the earth was standing still and it did not move around the sun.

what people must try to understand is that the creation of the universe is an idea that is impossible for the human mind to grasp. we are not evolved enough to understand it, even if we knew how it happened. try and imagine that the entire universe began from an infinity amount of energy at an infinite point in "space", and then expanded and by using e=mc^2, the mass that is in the universe came about. you simply can't handle that idea.

If there was no God, then there would be no accountability for your actions after death. Thus there would be no such thing as objective morality - only social convention.

If social convention is the only controlling factor therefore, and morality doesn't technically exist, then it would mean that there is nothing wrong with an act until caught. You could murder someone and it would only be illegal, not immoral - so just don't get caught. If a society legalises killing (e.g. of an unborn baby) then there would be nothing wrong with it.

Thus if there is no God, it is permissable for everyone to be out for themselves. Some people may want to look after themselves by doing good for others (as it might make them feel good), whereas others might look after themselves by being selfish and promoting themselves at the expense of others. One would not be a better course of action that the other.

Just as there would be no bad consequence of an action after death, (and thus no such thing as justice & truth as an objective concept), but there would be no reward for 'good' action. Life would be bereft of lasting hope.

This question has been posed so many times throughout the course of our existance, but it never loses its ability to cause controversy and argument. I look at it like this at this time in our history. The absolute destruction that would be caused by the proof of no "God" would be catastrophic. "God" has become the basic reason for why so many things right/wrong..good/bad have been done it would literally unravel all that is humanity. So I guess to answer the question is the idea of no "God" is pretty intense

Many people would create a God to try to explain things. Since there wouldn't be a God, though, their conception would differ. Some might believe in one God, others many. Some would see parts of nature like the sun and moon as Gods. Some might believe in an impersonal God that everything is part of. Others would come up with a story of God sending his son to Earth to die for us. There would be so many contradictory forms of God because there would not be one real one to latch onto.

Because of my upbringing, I can't say this without a certain sadness, but I'm not sure that it would matter to me one way or another. I try to be the best person I can be, and that's all I can do. If there is no God, and by extension, no heaven or hell, then that's ok too. After I die, I will slowly decompose with the knowledge I did the best I could, and let those who come after me wrestle with their own conscience.

The laws of nature, the intelligence and magic which is manifested in the whole of the creation would still be there right? Then you could name THAT as God if you like. I don't believe God is a person, I think God and manifested-magic-of-nature are one and the same thing.
