This was a hippie slogan from the '60s during the Viet Nam war designed to encourage young American males to defect to Canada. It had limited success. As a participant, I can only observe that the civilians who ran that war caused the US military an embarrassing defeat. Too many good people paid for a lot of bad decisions.

I occasionally wonder what would have happened at Christmas 1914 if the Allied and German soldiers had en masse just refused to fight. Imagine if they just got together that day and said "Tomorrow we're supposed to go back to killing each other, how about we just don't? How about we shoot anyone who tries to make us fight?"<br />
