Few things but should tell him that his bday surprise will be like a surprise if he acted good and no more get to jail again, as he will like make a deal so to get out and run to you so get the surprise lol :P.

I agree with money on his account, since inmates are mainly only allowed items from commissary. Chances are if you get him an actual gift he won't be allowed to have it anyway. Plus that way you know he will get something he really needs/wants.
