What is a good modern series?

I'm curious what are some modern Sci-Fi books that EP members can suggest? I especially like series, but, of course, I've read most of the major ones.

There are the Orson Scott Card "Ender" series of books. That's "recent" for me, as I'm more into the old masters, most especially Asimov and Heinlein. Ender's Game is damned good stuff, but also very cruel, IMHO, and the subsequent books interestingly veer off of that, though into their own fascinating directions.

I highly, HIGHLY recommend The Nightside by Simon R. Green. It's a fast paced film-noir style series that is jam-packed with awesome characters and enough wit, humor, and pop culture references to make Douglas Adams writhe in familial ecstacy.

Plus, all of the books in the series are really quick reads.

If you enjoy alternate history SM Stirling's Novels Of The Change are very good. They're post-apocalypse books about the evolution of modern society when it's suddenly plunged into a future lacking all but the most rudimentary forms of technology. The first book is Island In The Sea Of Time, I enjoyed them anyway.
