What is a patriot in your own words?

Does a true patriot love their country, their land and people? Or do they love their government?

A patriot, was someone like my father, and he was anything but a fool. He served his country during WW II. He then came home and cared for his family of 4, always worked and never asked for anything. And on July the 4th, you can bet the flag would be hung with respect on his front porch. Some of us have never had to risk anything to have the life we have. I'm glad I knew one man who did risk is life, and believed in his country, and his family enough to say it was all worthwhile.
