It is a state of awareness. It is worth any and every price that you can imagine, but it comes with no price (other than, perhaps, in our culture, a sense of isolation that is SO worth the rewards, But as more people become enlightened - and it's a growing phenomena - that too will go away).

An enlightened person looks out on the world and sees so much more than the spiritually blind can see. Enlightenment allows one to see one's own innate PERFECTION, and in this way allows perception of perfection in all. So you could call it a state of enhanced perception of the world in which we live

enlightenment is a PLACE of peace - total, complete, unadulterated. it is nothing like what our culture calls peace. It is a state of GREAT power. An enlightened person, therefore, does not feel fear, and is not owned by his/her emotions. Because emotions no longer control me, ego is largely missing, and when it pops its head up, I can quickly remind myself of my perfection and it fades back into non-existence.e

The rewards are so worth devoting a life to.

I am not so sure that there is no ego and less emotions. Just a deeper knowing that you have to let go in certain situations, because they serve no purpose. I believe that even an enlightened person struggles with emotions sometimes, but is more ready to accept that and move on nonetheless. Ego is in everyone of us. Enlightenment in my view makes you accept that too and makes you smile/laugh about your own foolishness. :-) this deminishes the effect of ego, but does not make it disappear in my view.

Enlightenment brings an end to suffering. When in that vibration, all is well. A sense of well-being brings peace. Enlightenment by many of us is experienced as a sense of fulfillment, contentment and unity with all existence, a setting aside of ego-based demands, and an end to needs. I have experienced this state in meditation, and nothing else compares. However, I am unable to stay in that state as I still have unresolved spiritual beliefs.

Enlightenment is a deeper knowing. Many want a deeper knowing. It cannot, in my opinion, be attained by devoting your life to it, but only by living your life. If you devote your life to attain it, you will only attain what you already know and can imagine, not the unimaginable deeper layers of knowing you find by accident when living your life and experiencing it in all its facets, fearless and with passion.
