What is it that makes music so special.. ?

Why does it seem like in some way or the other music can relate to everything. I'm not talking just lyrics, I'm talking about all aspects. The vibration of the strings, the relative pitches, major and minor notes and chords, tempo.

Is This A Good Question? (1)

Music is a language and an inteligence of its own. It was not inveted, it was not created or just has always existed.

When you shine a beam of light frew a prisom you get all the colours of the spectrum.
Simular to light you have the same effect if you do it with sound.
Middle A 440htz splits into its seprerated notes. in this case A,C#,E and a higher A to make up what we call a major chord.

There are over factors to include aswell. Classical music is in the higher range of frequency which vibrate faster and sooth us. we find more relaxing.

Heavy metal is low and we enhance this lowness by de-tuning guitars to emphasis these low feelings which can bring on hate and other unrelaxed feelings.

Also in music we can created Contradictions.

We can play a happy sounding chord but put sad lyrics over them or the other way around.
This creates a kind of unbalanced effect.

i could go on about rhythms ect and how they effect mood and and even attitudes about different styles ie R U a Punk or a metal head, or just a bit jazzy. they all have different personalitys.

Styles like blues can bring sad emotions by the way they use bends. Bending a note on the guitar out of our scale (or frequency we normaly hear) to bring discomfort. ie its a bit sh#t

    hope this helps :)

You have your own answer! because there's a song for every mood it makes you feel less alone and understood. It is cathartic is I believe the word for it.

It is a way for me to experience every great moment in my life. Funny, but music never brought back any bad memories for me.

The world is a better place when set to music. When I walk, I usually plug in my headphones. Try it with and without, the place is totally different with the music. Everything is enhanced for me. Just goes to show you that it's not our surroundings that matter but our perception that makes the difference. Try it with some music you DON'T like. It still changes the experience - just maybe not in a positive way. Good and bad music is another discussion, again, all about our perception I think.

What makes music special is that you can identify with it. However you feel at that time, a song can get to you. Not just the lyrics, the melody and the harmony, the effects, the pitch of the voice, the mix of it all is what gives the soul to a song. There are specific notes that sounds "nice" together, there a some that together or on a certain order give a "nostalgic" feeling, a happy feeling, a calm feeling. Music is for me one of the best forms of art.
