What is love? and why do people betray their partners?

Love is amazing. But the English word is lacking, I think. And confusing. Let's look at how the Greeks explain its different aspects, and they can overlap.

AGAPE - the love you feel for humanity, even strangers. If someone is suffering, and your hear goes out to them and want to help them, that's agape.

PHILIA - the love you feel for your friends.

STORGE - affection. Like the affection a parent feels for a child.

THELEMA - desire.

EROS - well aint this one obvious? Erotic or romantic desire. Guess us English folk just get a little caught up in this one ;)

I think the 7 types of love as defined by the greek philosphers covers a lot..
We love our children,our parents,our spouse/lover,friend,siblings each differently.

We often think only of the spouse/lover as the 'loved one' however it is so hard to say this love is the sole one in existence,but we are consumed with it.

I wonder if we are going to ever get away from wanting to be consumed by another and the love and feelings generated by the significant other.

Even when love is unrequited we persist in hope,revenge and betrayl of ourselves.

I think as vulnerable imperfect humans we are sometimes unable to live a higher life in spite of knowing we should.

We are destined to mess up!!

It is an indefinable term, used in countless ways by many to describe an emotion that themselves at times, can not fully define. It is a complex and sometimes overwhelming emotion in all of us and varies in intensity from person to person both in thought and implementation. It can be instituted in total sincerity and truth or contrived for whatever good or evil purpose the user intends.

The word is at times used casually applying to myriads of both human and inanimate articles. It is hoped that it can convey some idea of what our deepest inner thoughts may be. It it as it were the very core of our being that we wish to expose.

We extend love to others and when sincere we anticipate, better, expect deep abiding reciprocity. When for one reason or another that is not returned in the same measure, anger , hurt and disdain rears its ugly head and unfaithfulness rules the day.

Love , its magical and yet so indefinable. I wonder if we will ever really know what true love is.

I think people betray their partners because their cowards and that the only way out of the relationship they can find. Or it's because of temptation.. maybe they don't have the will power to be loyal. I think there are lots of excuses people will use on why they wouldn't be loyal, but none of them are forgivable to me. There are people out there like myself that look at love as an amazing thing, something that you cherish and never want to let go or never let anyone take it away from you. And there are a lot of good men and women out there that are loyal.

Love i suppose is whatever you want it to be. There's no actual definition. It's different for everyone in many ways i'm guessing.
People betray their partners through pure selfishness i think. That person obviously wouldn't care about their partner's feelings if they were to cheat, only of their own feelings. In which case. How can they say they really love them at all?
People might disagree. But in a way. I can't be wrong. Because How can you justify cheating and betrayal? What excuses could you possibly give that would make sense, that would make it any better?

Love a a feeling that varies person to person.

People betray their parteners for mulitple reasons. Sometimes its because they dont love thoer partener, they love the person they are cheating with, or maybe it was a big drunk mistake.

Love is LOve. it can't be explained; it can't be controlled; it's a free emotion. People betray their partners bec they're never contented.

In my opinion most people don't betray unless they are being betrayed... they betray to regain what is lost...
I feel most people would never set out to hurt anyone intentionally, I feel most people are good. Betrayal doesn't have to be being intimate with someone else, betrayal can be shutting one out of one's life, being insensitive and selfish, there are may forms of betrayal in my opinion, stepping out is just one of them.
