In theory it is a good thing, in reality it is something else.

People have no motivation to make anything better, thus there is deterioration of the country.
It makes few people better. It leaves the majority of people poor. It leaves everyone without hope.

Yes, elimination between rich and poor is a good idea.

But in communism there is little or no incentive for people to be more productive. Why risk your own personal well-being, when there is no chance for personal reward in exchange?

It twists Uncle Sam's panties the wrong way.

Communism makes the elite our providers, and the poor and uneducated slaves to a system. The rich determine what everyone else should have. The rich benefit from the system, as in a paradigm, while everyone else, just barely manages.

Capitalism puts the responsibility of provision directly on the citizen. So, it is possible for a poor and uneducated person to rise by obtaining education and hard work. In a capitalist society, happiness and prosperity is measured by the individual, and not a governmental system.

Hypothetically speaking, though, communism would be a perfect system if everyone was equal. There would be no need for government, and each shares a proportion of their prosperity with those around them. Since everyone is equal, then everyone works equally hard, each person having a proper "place and function." There is no room for selfishness or self-entitlement.

The current forms of communism are exactly opposite, and providers demand priviledge and status. Those same providers also determine who and how much certain people get by putting them in a category. Often, it is hierarchal, and there is a line drawn between the haves and have-nots. And the have-nots don't have a choice. They don't get a vote. And they have to accept what's given them. Prime example: Venezuela.

Eliminating class differences is a great idea in theory, but it will never happen in reality. People are too selfish by nature. So the problem with communism is that it is very naive and impractical.

The problem with communism is that its impossible; people can never be of the same "status" because people aren't the same. There will always be some people that for whatever reason manage to eke out more than others. One cannot forcibly make people homogeneous without ridding them of their humanity, such as in Brave New World. Now socialist states claiming to be communist, such as the former Soviet Union, are another issue entirely.

total control over your life, loss of freedom, loss of self respect, loss of incentive and mass murder of dissenters? Yeah, communism is really a great system to live under...just ask the East Europeans.

i don't think communists are "evil". and as a young idealistic poor student i once thought communism was GREAT. but the thing is... when EVERYONE is equal it usually means EVERYONE is equally poor and miserable.

People are inacapable of a truly good government over an extended period of time. We can't even make work place politics succeed.

nothing...Marx states in the Communist Manifesto that his ideas would not work because it is not human nature to give up money and/or power. Therefore any and all governments eventually become corrupt and it is the position of the people to revolt and reestablish a new government.

It sacrifices the individual at the expense of the collective.
