I have heard of courses you can do that break the HABITS you have surrounding smoking, and that they are very effective. Ie - you dont focus on quitting smoking, but on the things you associte with the smoking, and you break those connections.

Eg. If you smoke first thing in the morning, you make yourself wait 15 mins after you wake for your first. Once the time has passed, you can smoke as much as you want. You gradually increase the time you have to wait. This breaks habbits, and eases you out of the addiction, without longing for more.

Don't.

I used chewing tobacco. Skoal really did it for me! Obviously then I was hooked on Skoal, but it was easier to cut down on because it's less convenient. Plus it makes me look like an ignorant, redneck, racist hillbilly. But since I really AM that, it didn't bug me. Anyway, I'm tobacco-free about 5 years now. Good luck!

Just stop.

I haven't smoked for about a week.

Well, haven't smoked REGULARLY ;p

I have bummed a couple here and there from some friends, but not nearly as bad as the half pack-full pack a day I was smoking before.

It varies from person to person. Really it all comes down to will power. I've tried the patch, the gum and the lozenges but nothing has helped because I haven't really WANTED to quit. I haven't had the will power. I have heard however that the new prescription CHantix works wonders. My coworker used it and didn't even act B*tchy as some people do when they're withdrawing. The best advice i can give you is cut back, set a quit date and change ur routine. if u have a smoke w/ ur morning coffee, start doing something else in the morning etc also, avoid caffiene as much as possible as it triggers nicotine cravings...as does tomato sauce (weird but true). and after you eat, chew a piece of gum or go for a walk. those are the hardest times b/c u want one soooo bad after a full meal. GOOD LUCK!

It's different for everyone. For my mother, who smoked for over 25 years, it seems like a combination of shame and lozenges did the trick. She says her turning point came when I looked at her one day and asked, "Are you EVER going to stop smoking?"

Not long after that, she started using 'Commit' lozenges and they worked wonders for her. It's been about 4 1/2 years now. :) So proud of her. Good luck with quitting. I know it's not easy.

Educate yourself, Alan Carr's book or I found lots of good advice at Quitnet.com

Willpower - you have to WANT it.

NRT Gum and lots of water and exercise.

There are NO benefits in smoking cigarettes!! Best of luck...you CAN do it!

Don't buy them.
Don't put them to your mouth.

My mother smoked for 25 years, and quit cold turkey....if she can do it, believe me, anyone can. You just need to set your mind to it....
