Meditation. And vitamins, like a multi-vitamin, B vitamins, and John's Wort...unless you count that as medication.

Back in the day (when medications were non-existent) hearing from others about their ordeals helped you realize hopefully, you were in a better place, thus helping your mental frame of mind so you could go about your business.

This is what my dr told me years ago when I had it. I took my girlfriend at the time to a remote cabin in the woods for 2 weeks. i brought enough food and we made love a lot of the time. That was dr;s orders and it worked. My depression came from to much stress in the so called 'rat race.' I was not doing anything to please myself. I asked my dr for meds, but he said no. He said not until I did what he said. I had a dr;s appiontment after that, and he said i was much better.

Exercise and meditation can help with symptoms. You really need psychotherapy or meds though.

Accept each feeling and process each thought. I know whenever I get depressed I get exhausted from just thinking. As irrational and irritating the thoughts may be just try to write feelings down on a notepad or even write out all the negativity that's plaguing your mind and then tear it all up and throw it away. That action will tell you that those feelings have been expressed and that you don't have to feel overwhelmed by them any more. You could also try drinking camomile tea. I don't know why but that helps to calm me down when I get anxious and cheer me up when I get depressed xoxoxo try to shift your focus if your mood is draining you by doing something that cheers you up xoxo

1 - Talking with a counselor (there are programs for those with limited income in many counties) or pastor (not the "bible thumping" ones).
2 - Writing in a diary, some find posting in the stories section here to fill this suggestion.
3 - Believe it (or not - but it's true)... Getting out in the sunshine helps - something about those sun rays. In fact just getting out among people and activities (does not need to be all that involved - just a change of pace and surroundings) will help.
Don't discount the medicine either, as there are chemical imbalances that accompany depression, making some medications beneficial to the recovery process. (If you take meds for this, you will know when to stop the meds, as there is a point that you will see them not working; either a result of you getting better, or initially when they are trying to find the proper meds to help.)
This id a nickle/dime answer to the Cliff Notes version of an elaborate answer that should be given...
I hope it helps you to understand..

Ciggarettes? Whatever you do, your gonna be depressed until you decide not to be anymore, and don't get me wrong it's not an easy decision to make like flipping on a light switch. Were all supposed to have these feelings because that's how we survived since forever ago.
