I have had a problem with wax and ear infections for many years. Made a lot of visits to the doctors office. One day, a nurse practitioner gave me a simple solution that really works for me.
My problem: was triggered by getting water in my ears after swimming or even taking a shower. The ear would stay moist, wax would build up, and then I would get an ear infection.
The solution for me: Every time your ears get wet, take a sheet of toilet paper. Poke your finger into the middle without punching a hole through it. Now, twist the paper. Next, stick the paper into your ear canal and twist it around, It absorbs the moisture and removes some of the wax. It's been 2 years, and ear infections and wax blockages are a thing of the past for me.
One last point, don't jam Cue-tips into your ear.It will only compact the wax and increase your odds of an infection.
Good luck

It has to be some liquids such as water, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, olive oil, etc.
Q-tips and other solid items are just going to push the earwax deeper to your eardrum or ear canal.

Peroxide. You can find it in your local drug store. Tilt your head sideways and have another person drop a capful in your ear. There will be a sizzling and a slight tingling feeling if the wax is breaking up. Leave it in there for maybe 10 minutes, then empty it over the sink.
Then, once it's all loose, us a squeege, you know, the turkey-baster looking things for your ear. Fill it with water and then squirt it in your ear. Nice and hot water, but only to a temperature you can stand. Do this over a sink, right in your ear (will go down your face, have a towel over your mouth, nose and eyes!), and it should dislodge it all! They do the same things in a doctor's office. Worse comes to worse, you go there and have them do it.

There are ear drops you can buy that come with a rubber bulb to rinse out the dissolved ear wax. You lay down on your side, put the drops in your ear, wait for the drops to dissolve the wax, and then flush them out with warm water, using the bulb. Don't use cold water. Repeat for the other ear.
Bobby pins work fast, but then you get pimples in your ear canal. :( And there's danger of piercing your ear drum.

After taking a hot shower only, this softens the wax and is easier to remove

If you go to the doctor they will rinse your ear with some kind of liquid. I think you can buy the solution at a drug store and do it yourself. I think.
