I am Italian. People view us as loud, stubborn, and food-obsessed. Sad to say -- or actually NOT sad to say -- this is all true. We (in my family) are all loud, we are all stubborn as hell, and we feed EVERYBODY. That is how we make friends. We feed our neighbors, teachers, doctors, even the veterinarian. Probably a subconscious effort to make up for the loud stubbornness. ;)

I don't care about misconception. I think I am a world citizen, although I have no recognition or certification for it. I am also teaching my children and grandchildren to think that they are world citizens. Now they are entering interracial marriage and residing in various countries of the world and still consider me and people of all nationalities as their compatriots. In our hearts there is only love, not hatred because of national borders.

I am American.

But while I was travelling in Europe, a waiter at a local restaurant asked me if I would like a cup of coffee. I told him that I don't drink coffee.

The waiter then asked if he could instead bring me a glass of beer. I told him that I don't drink beer.

The waiter then asked; "Are you sure that you are American?"

"What do you mean?"; I questioned.

The waiter responded; "Because you don't drink coffee. You don't drink beer. And you are not fat!"

Since I'm mostly German and Italian, I'd have to say that a lot of people think that we're are all Nazis with blue eyes and blonde hair-- and that Italians are loud and in the mafia.

I am of mixed race, my father is black and my mother is white. A lot of people have made the assumption when hearing about my childhood(my mother was/is a heroin user, bank robber and went to prison, and my dad raised me by himself) that my dad is white and my mom is black.
