What is the deal with some people?

Ever since Barack Obama became president, i've been having people (mostly white people) come up to me & tell me "I hope your guy does a good job."

My guy? What does that even mean? lol Firstly, how would they even know that I even voted for him? Is it because i'm black, they automatically assume I voted for him?

Which by the way I did (And i'm not ashamed that I did!) But I didn't vote for him because of his skin color. I dug his message!

Now that he's president, i've seen people come out & harshly criticize him on things he's done so far. Hey it's cool. Every president is open to such scrutiny.

But I notice that every time i'm around some people (people who criticize Obama) they seem to button their lips up & keep quiet. Again, why?

Why can't some people just keep it real?

I thought most of us were beyond black & white talk? Why can't we just share our commonality as human beings & be open & honest with each other with out having to worry about our feelings getting hurt?

Because race relations in the US have not progressed as much as we'd like to think.

Imagine how people would deal with a Hispanic president, a woman, or (holy guacamole) an ARAB president.

here's some blunt honesty, don't take it personally. there are a lot of black people who, when they are given a job they don't want at work, or don't get a job for whatever reason, or get arrested, or any other negative thing happens to them, immediately whip out the "it's because i'm black" excuse. white people are tired of hearing it. the average white person feels that the average black person is is just looking for a chance to yell racism. and to a certain extent, it's true. that's why white people don't criticise obama so bad in front of black people. as for obama, i voted for him because i didn't like the direction our country was being taken in, and he represented the best chance for change. that, and the fact that had mccain won, we would have been one heart attack away from president sarah palin. scary thought.

First of all I applaud your efforts to "keep it real" and accept that Obama will be criticized just like every other president ever has been.

The honest answer is that for every one person who can TRULY see Obama as a person and not just a skin color, there are 10 more who just see him as a black man who happens to be a president, instead of a president who happens to be black. People are afraid to criticize him because they don't want to be labeled as racists. I teach middle school and my kids were the same way -- the white kids wouldn't say anything about him if there were any black kids within earshot.

It's pretty pathetic but unfortunately it's going to be like that for at least the next generation, in my opinion.

Ignorance. Maybe they were dropped on their heads too many times when they were younger? Ignore the ignorant :)

we all think that people are not as ignorant as we imagined but the truth is that they are. I met a girl who was shocked that I liked Obama and she continued to tell me that she was proud that I was able to look past the color of his skin...hmm insulting considering that many of my friends are not "white" so when I asked her what she liked most about him was the fact that he was black and running for office. I was ready to let her hear my piece of mind until she mentioned MLK and how...are you all ready...how MARTIN LUTHER KING MARCHED TO END SLAVERY!!! So I guess I was having a conversation with the most ignorant person I have ever met!

Because they know that their hatred is foolish and without good reason. That's why they stay quiet. If they had something, anything poitive to say they would, but they don't .

because the majority of 'white people'are guided by out dated sterotypes of 'black people'.its sad and wrong that the commonality of as humans is not enough.maybe having a black president will go towards helping this.[getting rid of all of the rednecks wouldnt go a stray either]

Too many people have their head up there arse. I'm loving the tax break and am sure that slowly things will get better. I live in the US but since I'm not a citizen I can not vote..but I would have voted for Obama. What I really hope to see..and I'm sure I never will...is an American Indian WOMAN as president!!

It's because every time a white person says something just a little bit off color, or when most black people (that I see around) either get arrested or things don't go their way they say "it's because I'm black" Where I live they were talking on the radio that a group of firemen didn't get any promotions or anything because a group of white and black men took the test for it and all the white men passed and all the black men failed and the city didn't want to look bad. What I don't understand is why would a black person want to be promoted or get things just because their black? I'm still waiting for white history month, and college scholarships just because we're white. I get really tired of hearing them complain. WHITE PEOPLE ENSLAVED WHITE PEOPLE LONG BEFORE WE EVEN KNEW YOU EXISTED!!!! And just so you guys know I'm not racist I have friends of just about every color there is.

A lot of people are on a witch hunt for racists and see them around every corner so people are careful what they say.
