Wow, the depth and breadth of the misinformation in these answers is BREATHTAKING!

"Shemale" = a term describing a male-to-female transgender person who intentionally retains their male genitalia, while surgically and hormonally transforming the rest of their body to appear as feminine as possible. Typically these individuals pursue a career in some part of the "sex industry".

PLEASE NOTE, this term does NOT necessarily apply to all NON-OP trans-women, and there are MANY who take great umbrage at being referred to as "shemales", particularly from those outside the trans-community, much the same as most black people resent the "N-word".

"Transsexuals" are those who either are, or have serious intentions of, living full time, 24/7, as the gender opposite of how they were born, due to a profound conflict between what is in their hearts and minds vs what is between their legs.

For a wide variety of reasons too complex to go into here, not ALL transsexuals will undergo gender reconfiguration surgery (GRS), but that does NOT make them "shemales".

"Ladyboy" is a slang term specific to ethnicly Asian transsexuals, due to their typically youthful appearance.

Then there is the old "umbrella" term - TRANSGENDER - which can be safely used without fear of offense for pretty much ALL OF THE ABOVE catagories, although individual results may vary.

    Get it?

    Got it?

    GOOD!

In my opinion, they are far from the "same thing"! Shemales are pre-op men who have gone through the 1-2 year task of a hormone and pill regimen and do not want to take the final step of castration. Personally, they are the best of both worlds and I'd love to 'get acquainted' with one.

Ladyboys are young Asian men/boys who look and sometimes act effeminate. They usually don't have body hair and like to play the feminine part in a casual relationship.

Transsexuals are men who enjoy dressing and 'going out' dressed as women. I have seen some beautiful Transsexuals and often wonder if they have just succumbed to the fetish or are secretly tortured by the desire to be female.

I agree. Now what is the difference between a transsexual and a transgendered person? Are the transsexuals cross dressers? Are the transgenders people who have taken a one or two-year regimen of hormone and have breasts but have chosen to keep their penis? What do they do about the adams apple? Which sex do they prefer to date?

I thought the ladyboy was someone who was male, but dressed and acted like a girl, kind of feminized. I thought that a shemale was a guy who was on hormones, has or is developing breasts and womanly curves and still has his ****. I thought a transexual was someone who has completed the sexual reassignment surgery.

A 'Ladyboy' is a slang term for 'Shemale' but in the Asian culture it is accepted for one male member of the family to be more femine but without hormones. In Tahiti theyre called 'Réré'. I quite like them all, whatever the term employed, they have courage and insight to be who they truly are, which is much more than many people.

I've been reading all the responses starting at the top, I probably should have started at the bottom and read up. Whatever, now I'm confused with terms and definitions. Transvestite, Transsexual, Transgendered; I suspect that each noun has a very specific definition, but I don't know the differences. Help?

"Transsexuals are men who enjoy dressing and 'going out' dressed as women."

That sounds more like a transvestite/crossdresser than a transexual to me and don't get me onto the subject of "HPWs" - Hairy Pantie Wearers.

And the desire to dress as a woman has nothing to do with sexuality - I know tgirls who are not interested in the sex side at all, I know tgirls who only like other tgirls, tgirls who only like women, tgirls who only like men and tgirls who go with the flow....

I see the term "gay" as a social term applying to homosexual men and women - not one that defines the physical act.

I am a pre-op transexual - I live full time as a woman - not a very convincing one though.

Most "admirers" - a term given to men (or women) who like tgirls deny that they are homosexual or gay as they would never have sex with a man.

And it has nothing to do with being physically attractive - although I have been told that I dress in a more feminine way than most women these days - I don't do jeans, trainers and t-shirt!

where i come from there is many ladyboys some muchmore femanin than some normal ladies but normally tends to lan as one person said a woman in a mans body some g on to stay as a nam some go on to have the op and i will tell some of them you can not spot it and would neve know even after sleeping with one as as been reported on many sites some are happy tobe loved as thay are some want to go the whole way but are happy either way if there partner is happy but there is many around who will nevr fit the bill of being a woman no matter what op thay have bu t in asia ladyboys are not frowned upon as thay are in western culture

i actually work with a ladyboy hat is post op the only thing a ladyboy cannot change is her id card there a man for life my goverment doesent give them an option to change but if you look around the net you will see some very nice ladyboys sexy as hell and i dont mean on **** sites go online chat with one there ok
but then im not biased to any gender

if he persons nice ok its there choice but here some are from an early ealy age of maybe 6/7 very prominatley a woman a go through school as a woman and talk to on most will tell you why if your polite thay dont get offended easy thay have been brought up with dealing with the questions ect

none of this is about the sex related lady boy who is not a nice person normally there are few but very many bad as people will tell you with a little reserch

A lot of people here don't know what their talking about. The answer is that there is no difference. Both are transsexuals. "Shemale" is simply an adult industry term that refers to pre-op transwomen. Like the word "tranny," It is considered offensive and is only used for marketing ****. "Ladyboy" is the same thing, except it references Asian pre-op transwomen. Whether or not a transwomen chooses to undergo surgery, hormone therapy or anything else varies, and is completely up to them and has no bearing on their trans status.
