Paid child support for three children. The hard part was my wife had trouble rasing them, so I had the children. Took a year to get the courts to stop taking money from me and giving it to their mom. When we were loosing our house, I took the kids to the courthouse and said, "kids, tell them where you live" Didn't help, lost the house. That was really difficult.

While going through my divorce with my now ex-wife, I had to decide whether I should try to get custody of the children. Due to several issues, her older brother and older sister both thought I should have them and they even wrote letters stating such so my attorney could have them to use during the case. Additionally, my ex-wife's best friend (they were in each other's weddings plus this friend and her husband were to get our 3 children if my wife and I died together on a trip etc... and this best friend and her family visited us on many Easter's and Thanksgiving's even though all of us had close family living) also thought I should have the children and she wrote a letter too.

This friend broke off their friendship due to all that was happening, refused to go to my ex-wife's next wedding.

Anyway, after thinking long and hard, because I didn't want to look back months/years after making my decision and think about "what if I had thought of that?" So I thought and thought, prayed, debated with friends but in the end, I decided that our children needed to be with their mother as they were only 4, 6 & 9 yrs old when we got divorced...

I did what was best for them, not for me. But I don't see how anyone can put themselves before their own children...
