What is the logic of sending an email like this and is there anything to it:?

"I love you very much but if you do not forward this email to 9 people you will have bad luck for 68 days!"

Why would intelligent people, especially iprofessional, smart, wise family members send such an email to you? Is there something to it? Are you being legitimately warned? I simply do not get it.

I understand that logically this is an email tracking program behind this for spammers. And that is why it baffles me why I get this from good solid people I trust. It makes me wonder what is really up.

I'm sure there's a psychological reason why someone who's normally smart, educated, etc would still feel like there's some value to passing that on. Perhaps they are secretly superstitious. Maybe they thought it was no big deal, and didn't think about it. Or maybe they felt it was a social thing, and liked feeling a part of things by getting it and passing it on. I can only guess. Assuming, of course, that it wasn't a rare occasion where a virus sent it. I guess just remember that underneath it all, they are still human. Sometimes even the most intelligent people can still do stupid or thoughtless things. You could ask them directly why they passed it onto you. And while you're at it, ask them not to share those empty chain messages with you in the future.

I think it's sad that anyone would want to send their friends an email that says they will receive bad luck if they don't forward it on.... I'm thinking... that's not so nice! That's why I don't send them. I want to keep my friends, not wish them bad luck!

This type of email / letter is a Chain Letter, and an abomination as far as I am concerned. Do not give it the power of your attention!!! If you believe that not following its directions wll harm you, it will; but that is YOUR creational power that's doing it, not the sender's, who has simply made an unpleasant suggestion.

To pass on a message like this to one you love (for example, family), is a piece of nonsense.
Bin that; done there!

I think some people get a thrill out of the "What if" factor of it, but they know it's just a game. I don't find it amusing.
