Where I live the county can legally sell it out from under you for back taxes after 5 years. I now a couple of people that haven gotten really nice places for back taxes ,( you still have to pay the mortgage though )

A neighbor didn't pay for over 10 years and when they finally got an eviction or foreclosure on him, the place burned to the ground. Damnest thing. Think he's living in Florida now. Nice guy too.

what if the house was passed down to you and the previous owner hadn't paid taxes for years.? what happens?
