    There's a country song by George Jones called 'He Stopped Loving Her Today'. It's the saddest love song I've ever heard about unrequited love, the guy loved her until he died. The songs says..'He stopped loving her today, as they carried him away, placed a wreath upon his door'. I don't know if I'm understanding your question correctly but it reminded me of that sad love song.
