Its societies way of sucking BOTH parties into being controllable slaves for the most productive years of their lives..Men owning/controlling women,...and women enslaving/parasiting men.Anything else you'd like to know??

my 39th wedding anniversary is coming up. i am very much in love with my husband, and he with me. marriage shows more commitment than just living together. to say you don't need a piece of paper to say your committed is BS. if your really that committed, why not marry? living together means your committed until someone better comes along. if you're afraid it won't work, it won't. marriage shows that you know it will, and you're willing to stick with it when problems arise, which they inevitably do. it shows respect for each other and for your children. it also shows respect for your parents. it's the morally and legally binding. this is my opinion. i hope that helps.

well, i guess that i'm still considered a newlywed. with me, it's not that deep. i just met the person that i wanted to spend the rest of my life with and that was that. i love the stablity and having a family of my own is really important to me. maybe one needs the piece of paper, maybe one doesn't. i am glad that we can all decide for ourselves what we should do.

marriage is important to me b/c it is a reminder of a promise that i made to someone. to share a promise like that-- a vow-- it's a really powerfully positive thing to share with someone who feels the same. it is awesome, in the truest sense of the word.

Hi Dredd13
I think the central point is to try to give security for raising children. I wonder if this is not a mistake myself because it might lock in unhappiness which is not good for children anyway. The reality is you can not make promises to the future because you just do not know. Simply being together is best in my view. There is great responsibility in freedom which institutions relieve you of by taking your freedom.

It was a symbol before to keep people having their sins confinded to one person. Now its more legal. Insurance and things.

Marriage is not a religious institution, as in most other aspects of life the Church muscled in on it to take control! Marriage was, and is, first and foremost intended to provide a stable environment for raising children!
