Real Love is not something you do, nor is it a feeling others have for you. It is an infinite beauty at the core of all which shines forth from people in various degrees. Once you've entered into it happiness can't begin to describe your state.
as for being "in love" -- real love requires no reciprocation.

Love means giving. When you give (material or otherwise) and don't feel like you've lost anything, rather you feel good because someone else who benefitted from your gift is momentarily happy, you feel double happy.

The real meaning of love is a constant feeling of COMFORT, TRUST, JOY, APPRECIATION, CURIOSITY, CARING, COMPASSION, COOPERATION, WILLINGNESS, ACCEPTANCE, BLISS, BELONGING, CHERISHING, HOPE, FAITH, SURPRISE, PROTECTION, MAGIC, SAFETY, GRATITUDE and even INCREDULITY.
It makes you happier than you can even IMAGINE when you are lucky enough to have the real thing.

Love is a drug that keeps you momentarily happy until the side effects kick in, or you just don't get enough of it. It like many other drugs, if used incorrectly can kill you. But on the same token, like many other drugs, it should be illegal.
