I let my brother cut my hair when I was 13.

He had just started working in a very well known Dublin hair sallon.

He began on one side of my head and just hacked it. I stopped him when he was almost half way around my head.

I had to go to school the following day with half of my hair very long and half very short. Now it was the time of 'new romantic' but this was a hacked version.

I was a state, laughed at all day in school, then straight to the barber to get a proper haircut.

Cry? You bet I did... a friend in High school convinced me she was a natural hair stylist... I don't know really why I said yes to her doing my hair, I think I just didn't want to hurt her feelings by saying no.

She wasn't a natural hair stylist.

i wanted my hair straightened but the stylist thought that it would become too dry and break off. she suggested i just cut it differently and color it. it ended up being a mullet-- like the WORST mullet EVER. i looked like a man. yes, i did cry. i have never looked that ugly in my whole life.

Hahahaha. I was four and so was my friend. We snuck into a room where it was dark (i guess she was anticipating getting told off) and she hacked off all my hair with a blunt pair of nail scissors. The worst part was I didn't even get my turn at cutting her hair after, like I thought I would. She cut her own. Hers was about chin length. Mine wasn't. It was short and uneven. Did I mention she cut it in the dark? We both got a growling for that, and my mum bought me this beret kind of hat with flowers on it to wear til it grew back.
Don't let four year olds cut your hair, even when they're your best friends, and you're four too, and don't even let them do it when it's dark.

When I was in the third grade, my mom decided to try to save money by cutting my hair myself. She ended up cutting my bangs diagonally by mistake, so I looked really goofy and it was obvious what had happened. Needless to say, we never tried that stunt again.

Navy Boot Camp. They charged us $.25 (this was in '63) and it just consisted of a bad buzz cut. Not even overlapping cuts, so there were little tiny rows of long hair sticking out all over. Total haircut probably was less than a minute. Crying was discouraged in Boot Camp.
