I have mixed feelings as to whether and emotional affair is really cheating. Just because a person shares their thoughts, feelings and worries with another person and has feelings for them, it's not really a bad thing. We all need friends and someone to talk about things with - sometimes, for whatever reason - we feel our partner is not available or receptive to what we want to say, and I think it's healthy to share with SOMEONE. If the physical line is never crossed, I'm not so sure they've really done anything wrong.
So - my opinion is that the one night stand would be worse, because the physicality actually takes place.
