Comparing a detention centre to a "gulag" is a gross exaggeration which is also an insult to all those who suffered and died within the gulag regime. Such statements are inflammatory and counter-productive.

The issue of boat people is a complex one. To focus on the orientation of these people is to distort the issue of illegal entry into Australia by boat. Its a fact that there are billions of people who would love to relocate to better circumstances ,for a broad range of reasons.

To think that any place can take on more and more people from elsewhere ,with their inherent high maintenance costs and risk factors ,is unrealistic and impractical.
Preference cannot simply be given to those that happen to be LGBT.

There are many things wrong with Australia and some of that also relates back to high levels of immigration from all types of places.
Its a lack of awareness in general i would say.
Maybe its better to have concern for indigenous Australians ,whose land it is in the first place. Many of whom live in worse conditions than any detention centre and with a worse set of prospects for the future.
When i see as yet to be determined "refugees" giving the finger to cameras ,or burning down the facilities that house them ,that does not endear them to my heart either.
A disorderly influx of damaged or dangerous persons into our country ,without documents etc...is a genuine concern to us all.
Especially when they are from countries and cultures ,that are violent and abusive.
Especially when there are high numbers of men..Especially when they straight away get lawyers ,to then sue our government for getting a hard start thru detention ,and by the way they are now so traumatised they can never work again or contribute anything even though they are young and healthy.
Those are just some of the complications.

We don't want them here. Plain and simple. The tax payers are still footing the bill for the whole project. So what is the problem?
Most Aussie's don't care if someone wishes to come and live here, but do it legally.
