    According to Greek mythology, Pegasus was the offspring of the immortal gorgan Medusa and the God of the Sea Posiden. He leapt from medusa's neck when she got her head cut off, and flew the hero to save the princess from a sea monster Aphrodite (goddess of love) had sent to terrerize a kingdom because the King has boasted that his daughter was more beautiful then she. The priests told the king the only way to appease Aphrodite would be to sacrifice the princess to the sea monster.
