Two: One was a book about a Korean woman's childhood and how she and her sister migrated to south Korea in order to escape a war, and another was about how a Japanese kid became interested in football and joined his school's team. They were amazing.
Jack the Giant Killer. It was a fairy tale and had positive messages and themes despite the violent title and mildly violent content.

Depends on the age of childhood to which you are referring. I loved everything Beatrix Potter wrote, in Elementary school I was obsessed with The Babysitters Club series, then in Junior High (and still) a particular favourite was Little Women and lastly was Pride and Prejudice in High School.
Pride and prejudice was a good book
