What is your opinion of Sheriff Joe Arpaio?

He is the Sheriff of Maricopa County, AZ. Created 'tent city,' & pink underwear. Should we have more law enforcements like him or not?

I live in Phoenix, therefore I am quite familiar with Sheriff Arpaio.

I think that his philosophy is sound; prisoners should not be allowed to simply suck off of the system. They cost tax payers a lot of money to feed, clothe, and house. Prison is a punishment, so I suppose they cannot expect things to be comfortable.

However, I do think that Sheriff Joe has gone a bit overboard. He has personalized this punishment thing. He has decided to pursue his own brand of justice to gain attention from the media, and to pursue his own personal vendetta. I am not quite sure how this helps the criminals stay out of prison. The jails are still just as crowded.

Hell yes he did the right thing.....And the baqddies think so aqlso....Well at least they do not commit crimes in his area anymore.....they go someplace else...Where we let the little babies have thier way....aqnd pay a great price for it

He does a great job! I like is philosophy that prison is a prison, not a countryclub.

America's corporate run prison system lobbys hard to make sure that legislation keeps as many people in prison as possible. It has nothing to do with public safety, it has everything to do with corporate profits and campaign donations. Our police state is very effective, with 3% of Americans "in the system" in one way or another, most of them for drug offenses which harm no one.
Joe Arpaio is not the problem, but people like him are the symptom of our diseased criminal justice system.

He's a human rights violator just like Sadam Husane and the like. He's being investigated and it will catch up with him.

Other sheriffs need to learn from him.

Generally speaking, I like his approach. He is using a cleverness and astute ability to understand who he is dealing with. I think that it is much better than the more common approach that seeks to encourage violence and intimidation amongst the prison population. Sheriff Joe doesn't have any incidents of violence amongst his population. So, he is protecting the prisoners while they repay their debt to society. It is a highly principled way to operate. That is what prison was originally intended to do.

I agree with the comment above by CAJohn that our prison system is more about corporate profits and keeping the criminals flowing in and out as needed rather than solving the very real problems of the criminal mind. There are economies of scale built around the notion of keeping criminals in prison in some small towns and cities throughout the country. It is obscene that our mindset is that way.

I think he should be the president and lockup for life, the treasonous imposter occupying the White House.
