My ultimate, selfish personal pleasure is the first thing that springs to mind and it is driving open-wheel race cars. Then again, I really like how I feel when I see the little kitties we rescue getting plump and healthy and feeling good enough to play. I haven't driven in a few years and by now, I've surely pumped more money into rescuing pets than I ever did into racing, so which one gratifies me the most? Can I answer that honestly myself?

Driving fast, preferably in a "fast" car, but anything with four wheels and a stick shift will do (my car is an 18 year old Accord beater, not spectacular acceleration, but its good until you get to 115 or so). The feeling I get when I floor it, hear the engine growl, watch the speedometer and tach surge confidently ever higher (if only I could not screw up the 1-2 upshift in my car). Nothing is more exciting than taking a corner too fast, feeling the g-force and hearing the tires at their limit of adhesion. Nothing will make you feel more alive than passing a line of five cars on a dark, foggy, rural road. If it wasn't for the damn cops, and the fact that my gas mileage goes off the cliff past 85 miles an hour, I would never slow down. I don't know how to describe it, but when the pedal is to the floor, and its just me, my car, and the road, I feel free, untouchable, invincible.

That's actually a tough question for me. It's either watching my kids grow up and make good choices, or dressing up with a girl, especially if I ... .
