I have lived alone for 30 years, and pretty much alone for the other 30 years.

Most of those years I worked around the clock.

I have never been on a holiday, I have spent the majority of Christmases, Birthdays etc, alone, but I keep myself interested and busy, so it really doesn't bother me.

I'm now retired, I never have a visitor, my phone never rings. I either chat away on line or watch TV, and I also do volunteer work which I find for myself, because I have never belonged to any kind of group.

This is just the way my life went, I came from a dysfunctional family, I moved about with my jobs; most of my jobs saw me with complete autonomy and working alone, and they also involved a lot of travel, as a result I have never really ever belonged anywhere, because I simply didn't stay long enough in any place to belong.

It's only at Christmas that I feel lonley, it''s the only time I actually see how alone I really am, because wherever I go, I see people visiting, or gathering in groups for work parties, family gatherings, etc.

It's then that I know my life is very different, but there's nothing I can do about it, it's too late to become a part of a group like those who have belonged all their lives.

I'm happy, things could be worse, I'm comfortable and want for nothing as far as I have a place to live, no debt, and enough to pay the bills. Many have far less, and live lives that are horrific, so I can't complain.
