Except for the production line, I hate teams at work, although some of my best work experiences were with teams composed of friends who all trusted each other. That is the rub: There is usually an insufferable shmendrik who ruins it for everyone by his insane rush to conquer the world one work group at a time.
So, my advice is don't do it if you don't have to, but if you must, make sure it is clear that:
- deadlines are serious
- poor quality data from one party to the next is a mortal sin
- Do your damn work and don't whinge about it
- Meetings should be short and sweet, get the the project knocked out so you can do more pleasant work
And if a person for whatever reason does not pull his load, kick him off the team and get a better replacement.
Im not saying im flawless but when it comes to family and my job im quite logical and rational and of course women find me irresistable. :)
