What kind of kitchen floor is best?

someday I will have to change mine. Need opinions!
I've seen ceramic, marble, slate, etc. I don't know what is best and is easiest to take care of, doesnt have to be expensive I'm poor anyways so its a long ways ahead!

If you're short of money, a nice cushioned vinyl would do - you can get some really nice ones at a decent price. Good for a kitchen, because dropped glasses/plates are less likely to break than on a marble or tile floor, and they clean very well. They are easy to lay and lift, so when you do have a bit more money you can upgrade to something better.

If you want durability and practicality, go with tile. Hardwood floors are attractive in a kitchen, but you will constantly have to make sure there is no water spilled anywhere, it can warp. Tile is attractive and spills won't hurt it.

I have a red clay tile floor in my kitchen and when it's mopped, it is really gorgeous. And that's all the care I (or my maid) ever give it, mopping. It's been 19 years since it was installed and the floor looks pretty much like it did the day the installers finished.

I say that the best floor is hardwood. Not the imitation stuff but the real deal. It's beautiful and lasts a long time and it's easy to maintain and clean.

Stone floors...LOVE them! They're in my dining room, kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room, mud room and office.
They're heated in the bathrooms.
