I'm from a 'burb in Florida. I was one of a few locals. The rest were transplants from NY.
I grew up in a state where I was the statistical majority but in my local area I felt more like the minority. It was good because I learned how to relate to other ethnic groups. It was also bad because I was not in the most visible ethnic group while growing up. I guess it was good in the end because it helps me write now as a person that had that perspective while growing up.
Baltimore city-near county-line...in the 60's it was wonderful, but like nearly all US cities, there are invisible borders!...on a transit bus, always be ready to duck!!!
Quebec City is very racist.
suburbs in NY in a house - tiny yard, about 20 homes in a block all exactly the same, it was okay
