What meds prevent very vivid dreams/nightmares and hallucinations and worse paranoia?

Well, I have anyway problems with paranoia... and the hallucinations in combination with that are pretty bad.
Now today, I slept finally a bit better again (at first...) and could get up in time.
But I had a really bad nightmare...I was so relieved that my alarm clock woke me up, but even though I can't recall every detail, it kept me so scared that I hid under my blanket and couldn't put even one foot out of my room or even out of bed.
And this doesn't happen the first time...
A few hours before I was close to run crying to my doc and beg her for helping me or something.. so I'm thinking about medication...
But all meds (antidepressants) I so far ever had to take, made hallucinations, paranoia and nightmares worse -as side effects (currently I'm not taking any meds though).
And I don't wanna jump from one medication to the other, without any working.
So maybe someone has experiences with it already and could recommend some meds?

Benzo's will help you sleep but they have to be perscribed by a doctor. do you get the hullucinations and paranoia when you are awake?

Hm.. I don't know, as long as those wouldn't make me totally dizzy, it would be worth a try. Yes, I have them as well when I'm awake... paranoia constantly; hallucinations not all the time, but often.

I wouldnt be taking them during the day, something to help you sleep through the night. Just be totally honest with the doctor about all your symptoms..
